Bemidji snowmobilers rescued Sunday from Lake Bemidji

Two Bemidji residents were rescued from Lake Bemidji Sunday night after the snowmobiles they were on went into open water.

According to the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office:

Alan Richard Gorick, 48, and Lisa Karen Mathis, 48, were on snowmobiles that went through the ice on the east side of Lake Bemidji at the Mississippi River outlet.

The incident was reported at 8:03 p.m. Responding to the scene were the Sheriff's Office, Bemidji Ambulance Service and Bemidji Fire Department.

The Fire Department was able to rescue both individuals using their Fortuna "banana boat." One was reported to be out of the water at 8:30 p.m. and the other at 8:33 p.m. Both were on shore at 8:44 p.m.

They were taken to North Country Regional Hospital, treated and released.

The snowmobiles remained in the water. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources was notified.
