Bemidji sixth-grader honored for poster
BEMIDJI - A Bemidji girl is being honored for creating a poster for the Minnesota DARE program, which promotes healthy alternatives to drugs.
Hannah Sether, 12, is a sixth-grader at St. Philips. She designed a poster reflect a colorful rainbow where kids are having fun while sliding and exercising.
The poster was selected as sixth best among nearly 400 submitted in a contest sponsored by the Minnesota Wild. Her poster is one of 15 selected for framing and display at the Mall of America in Bloomington on Monday, when the Department of Homeland Security and Minnesota DARE will put on a presentation about Internet and cyber safety.
"Hannah is a 12 year old who loves to express herself through her drawings and writings and also her sewing," a news release from the Bemidji Police Department said. Her poster represents the idea that "kids who are involved in positive activities are more likely to make good choices."
The Police Department's DARE program recognized her this week with a certificate of appreciation and several prizes.
Fifteen posters from the Bemidji DARE program were submitted for the contest.
Hannah is the daughter of Dean and Charlene Sether.
