BEMIDJI - The seniors on the Bemidji High School volleyball team went out on top in their final home match Tuesday, defeating Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton 25-22, 19-25, 25-22, 25-20.

This year’s Lumberjack team has five seniors - Courtney Black, Jasmin Yerbich, Allie Heifort, Blake Bardwell and Jess Yost.

“We have an awesome bunch of seniors,” Bemidji head coach Teresa Colligan said. “They are an extremely hard working bunch. They have all been with us at least two complete years. Allie and Jess have been with us for four years.”

After trailing 6-2 early in the first game, Dilworth rebounded to earn a 17-13 lead.

Bemidji rallied behind Yost and her serving to regain the lead at 21-18.

Heifort closed the first game with a kill which capped a 25-22 BHS win.

The Rebels jumped to 5-2 lead in the second game and, on the strength of the serving of Hannah Young and Taylor Bjerke, they were able to extend the advantage to 15-9.

Dilworth maintained control the rest of the way and evened the match at a game each with a 25-19 win.

After an ace from Myria Colley and back-to-back kills from Yost, however, the Lumberjacks built a 6-3 lead in the third game.

With Heifort serving, Bemidji scored three consecutive points to increase its lead to 16-10 and the Lumberjacks were able to hold off the rallying Rebels to win the third game 25-22.

“The third one is always important,” Colligan said. “We did not want them to totally take all of our momentum, so the third one was huge.”

After a tightly contested beginning to the fourth game, Bemidji built a 13-9 lead, thanks to back-to-back kills by Heifort.

After Dilworth inched closer to trail by just one point, Bemidji got kills from Yost, Timi Severson and Bardwell to increase its lead to 20-16.

The Lumberjacks were able to close the game and the night with a 25-20 win.

Yerbich and Yost led the Lumberjacks with 24 digs. Severson paced the Lumberjacks with 20 kills while Yost had 19 and Heifort 12.

Colley, Heifort and Alexa Greendahl each served a pair of aces and Greendahl contributed 49 assists.

Bemidji visits Wadena-DC Thursday and travels to the Alexandria Invitational Friday and Saturday.
