Bemidji School District approves 2011-12 levy
The Bemidji School District approved the Fiscal Year 2011-12 Levy at $8,997,035.94 during a Truth in Taxation meeting Monday night.
Bemidji School District's Director of Business Services Chris Leinen presented the school board with facts and figures on the current budget and the levy budget at the meeting, which followed the regular school board meeting.
The approved levy amount is a .11 percent, or $9,528, decrease from the current levy authority of $9,583,019.
Tax levy authority may only be given to a school board through voter approval or legislative action. A school board does not have any taxing authority unless it comes from the state legislature or the voters of the Bemidji School District.
