Bemidji School Board to hold ideation wrap-up meeting
BEMIDJI — The Bemidji School Board is scheduled this week to conclude the ideation process looking into the needs for additional youth recreation space.
The School Board is scheduled to meet twice Monday in the media center at Bemidji High School.
First, the board will meet at 5 p.m. for a wrap-up of the ideation process with Northern Minnesota Solutions Group, the consultants hired to lead a process to identify future indoor and outdoor recreation needs based on community input.
The regularly scheduled School Board meeting will follow at 6:30 p.m.
In January, the School Board voted unanimously to approve a contract with Northern Minnesota Solutions to develop a master facilities plan for recreation space needs.
Since February, the consultants have been hosting visioning sessions with community and youth groups to gauge their interests, needs and wants for the future. General meetings also were held, open to the public, to include anyone interested in weighing in.
Recommendations from the public went beyond just youth recreation needs as some participants suggested additional classroom space, a new school, perhaps an indoor bus garage or a YMCA.
Nine architectural firms oringally responded to the distict’s request for proposals for consultants and four were invited to present their proposals to the district’s Facilities Committee, which ultimately recommended Northern Minnesota Solutions.
The George W. Neilson Foundation partnered with the district to provide funding for the study.
