The School Board will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Bemidji High School Media Center.

The proposed preliminary budget is created to continue the business of the school district. It will undergo major revision in late fall when enrollments are finalized and the previous year's audit is complete.

Unknown variables include the negotiation process, Gov. Tim Pawlenty's actions and the effect of federal revenues.

The proposed general fund budget submitted by Chris Leinen, director of business services, is $48,689,192 in revenue and $48,970,799 in expenses. The total proposed budget for all funds is $57,098,446 in revenue and $57,264,942 in expenses.

The general fund covers general expenditures, special schools, capital projects and transportation. The other funds are food service, community service and debt service.

Curriculum review

In other business, Kathy Palm, director of curriculum and administrative services, will submit teacher requisitions for new K-12 art, music and world language curriculums. Teachers met regularly during the last school year to align their curriculums to the new Minnesota Arts and World Language Academic Standards. Teachers presented their process and results to the School District Curriculum Committee April 14. The new curriculum will be purchased after July 1 and will stay within the approved $200,000 budget.
