Just as the last batch of snow was finally melting away, the Bemidji area was pummeled with another snowstorm Thursday night.

The Bemidji area received about 8 inches of snow between Thursday evening and Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, N.D. Park Rapids got 7 inches while Red Lake Falls received just 1.5 inches.

The snowstorm, accompanied by strong winds from the northeast, resulted in near white-out conditions Friday morning,

Most area schools were canceled for the day; Bemidji State University had a late start and Northwest Technical College cancelled classes due to a power outage.

While main roads were plowed by Friday's workday commute, many country and "feeder" roads remained unplowed until late morning or afternoon.

District 3200 of the Minnesota State Patrol, based in Thief River Falls, sent an advisory Friday saying that roads are snow-packed and slippery. The State Patrol advised caution while traveling and warned drivers to allow for extra time to reach their destination.

Driving conditions were listed as poor, according to the State Patrol.

Beltrami County Sheriff Phil Hodapp noted that since most schools were canceled and several businesses shut down for the day, there weren't too many drivers out on the roads early Friday.

The Sheriff's Office advised drivers to stay off the roads, if possible, until they were plowed.
