Bemidji Police Department releases new Web site aimed at uniting pets with their owners
Looking for a lost pet?
The Bemidji Police Department has established an online Web site where pet owners can search descriptions and view photos of recently found animals.
Additionally, residents who have found an animal may also post its description and photograph online. The site is equipped with options for reporting a lost or found dog, cat, horse or other animal.
The Web site is accessible at www.ci.bemidji.mn.us by clicking on "Report Lost or Found Animals." It is updated regularly as found animals are only held at the impound facility for a few days.
The Police Department is taking pictures of recently impounded animals and posting them on the site so pet owners searching for their lost pets may be able to see the animals in custody.
People who have found an animal are invited to take a digital photo of the pet and e-mail to the Police Department. The e-mail addresses are available on the Web site.
While the Bemidji Police Department is spearheading the campaign, the Web site is accessible to everyone with an Internet connection. The Beltrami County Web site, www.co.beltrami.mn.us, is expected to also contain a link to the city's Web site.
In additional to utilizing the Web site, owners who have lost their pet should also contact Beltrami County at 333-9111 to report the lost animal.
For more information on the new service, contact the Bemidji Police Department at 333-9111 and ask for Carol or Char.
