Sanford Center wins Prime Site award
BEMIDJI - The Sanford Center, managed by VenuWorks, has been awarded the 2012 Prime Site Award of Excellence from Facilities Media Group. Venues are nominated by clients, based on various factors. The award is given based on the opinions of professionals in related fields.
The Sanford Center opened Oct. 15, 2010. It has a full arena seating capacity of 5,100, and is the home ice rink for Bemidji State University Beavers Men's and Women's Hockey programs. The George W. Neilson Convention Center is also a multi-functional space used adjunct to the center.
Sanford Taco Meal set for Wednesday
BEMIDJI - The Sanford Health Foundation of Northern Minnesota will hold its annual taco meal from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday.
The sale will be in the Dragon's Den at the downtown Lake Bemidji waterfront by the Rotary Pavilion.
This year, the meal benefit will support the purchase of daVinci robotics surgical equipment at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.
Members are invited to stop by for lunch, dinner or in between. Dragon Boat paddlers are invited to bring the whole family for tacos before or after Dragon Boat practice, with the Taco Meal's new extended hours.
Tacos will be served on fry bread or flour tortillas with trimmings, ice cream and pop for a cost of $7.
In conjunction, the Foundation is holding a 50/50 raffle. Raffle tickets may be purchased in the gift shop at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center or on site the day of the raffle.

Workshop scheduled for educators
BEMIDJI -- Peacemaker Resources will present "Making Pro-Social Connections with K-12 Students" Aug. 24 and 25 in the Prime West Health conference room.
Participants can earn 13 continuing education unit hours. Trainers Sue Liedl and Maggie Carlson will teach positive behavioral interventions, how to build a sense of safety and connectedness with students, and techniques that inspire a sense of calm and caring.
