Karvakko Engineering was founded in 2006 and is based in Bemidji with a branch office in Michigan. The firm provides civil engineering, land surveying and landscape architecture services throughout the upper Midwest, specializing in aviation, municipal, energy, and transportation. They have worked on a number of projects in northern Minnesota – most notably the Bemidji Airport which has been under development for 10 years. Karvakko Engineering has conducted more than $35 million in improvements through grant writing and providing professional engineering services at the airport.

The firm has doubled in the past year with a current staff of 15 employees, due largely to projects in the oil fields of western North Dakota. Michael Karvakko has expanded the company’s offerings by adding landscape architecture and land surveying to its list of capabilities. He credits his energetic staff for seeking out challenges and opportunities that have helped grow the firms’ list of projects.
