Karvakko named top 40 under 40
BEMIDJI – Michael Karvakko, president of Karvakko Engineering is Bemidji was recently listed in Prairie Business Magazine’s Top 40 under 40. The list is an annual publication to acknowledge 40 business professionals under the age of 40 throughout Minnesota and the Dakotas.
Karvakko Engineering was founded in 2006 and is based in Bemidji with a branch office in Michigan. The firm provides civil engineering, land surveying and landscape architecture services throughout the upper Midwest, specializing in aviation, municipal, energy, and transportation. They have worked on a number of projects in northern Minnesota – most notably the Bemidji Airport which has been under development for 10 years. Karvakko Engineering has conducted more than $35 million in improvements through grant writing and providing professional engineering services at the airport.
The firm has doubled in the past year with a current staff of 15 employees, due largely to projects in the oil fields of western North Dakota. Michael Karvakko has expanded the company’s offerings by adding landscape architecture and land surveying to its list of capabilities. He credits his energetic staff for seeking out challenges and opportunities that have helped grow the firms’ list of projects.
He lives with his wife and four children on a hobby farm near Bemidji. He is a member of the Society for Professional Engineers and the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Sanford Bemidji hires PA
BEMIDJI – Sanford Bemidji announces that Trevor Yartz recently joined Sanford Bemidji Clinics as a physician assistant specializing in Internal Medicine. Yartz will be working in the Internal Medicine Department at Sanford Bemidji Main Clinic and Walk-In Clinic.
Yartz has been in northern Minnesota for most of his career, including working at the former Northern Medical Clinic and MeritCare Health System. He last worked at the Deer River Health Care-Meridian Medical Clinic in Grand Rapids, where he was a physician assistant. In his role as a family medicine clinician, Yartz held a leadership role in the outpatient Family Practice clinic from its inception in 2008.
Yartz received his bachelor’s degree in medicine from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo and completed major studies in biology and chemistry at Youngstown State University in Ohio.
He is certified by the National Commission on Certification of PA, Inc.
