Bemidji native retires from service

BEMIDJI – Maj. Robert Hewitt has retired from the U.S. Army after 25 years of service. He is the son of Bob and Doreen Hewitt of Bemidji.

Hewitt enlisted in the Minnesota National Guard in 1988. After being named “Soldier of the Year,” he enlisted in the regular Army in 1990 and was assigned to 1-15th infantry in Schweinfurt, Germany. He was also assigned to Fort Benning, Ga., Fort Jackson, S.C., Fort Richardson, Ala., Fort Hood, Texas, and Fort Gordon, Ga. Hewitt is now married to the former Ms. Kimberly Beilfuss with three children in Colorado Springs, Colo.
