Bemidji man pleads guilty to third-degree assault

Daniel Wayne Jourdain, 26, of Bemidji, pleaded guilty Friday to third-degree assault.

His sentencing is set for March 16.

Jourdain was arrested Dec. 20 after allegedly striking a person in the head with a sawed-off shotgun.

He surrendered after holding officers at bay for more than three hours, according to the Bemidji Police Department.

According to police:

At approximately 1 a.m., officers responded to the 300 block of Westwood Acres on a report of an assault with a gun.

Upon arrival, officers learned a 37-year-old-victim had been struck in the head with the barrel of a sawed-off shotgun, resulting in a large laceration. The victim was treated for injuries.

Jourdain remained in the residence and refused to speak with police. Officers then evacuated neighboring homes as the standoff extended over three hours. Jourdain then surrendered to police and was taken into custody without incident.
