Bemidji improves to 2-0 with 10-0 victory at WHA
WALKER – Erin Booth scored four goals, Rachel Bitter three, Josie Spry two and Jillian Ricci one to power Bemidji to an easy 10-0 girls soccer victory Saturday over Walker-Hackensack-Akeley.
Saturday’s win followed Friday’s 5-1 triumph over Little Falls and upped Bemidji’s record to 2-0. The Lumberjacks, however, are likely to be more severely tested Wednesday when they invade Park of Cottage Grove. Detroit Lakes, which visits Bemidji Thursday, also should give the Jacks a tougher battle.
“Saturday at Walker we went hard in the first half and scored eight goals,” said BHS coach Kelly Schoonover. “But in the second half we concentrated on ball control and maintaining possession through passing.”
Spry set the tone as the senior connected at the 4-minute mark and again eight minutes in.
Booth notched her first goal at the 12-minute mark and Bitter collected her first tally 18 minutes into the action.
Bitter and Booth each scored twice more in the opening stanza and the Lumberjacks enjoyed the 8-0 cushion at intermission.
Ricci upped the advantage to 9-0 with her goal four minutes into the second session and Booth collected her fourth with 23 minutes to play.
“The games against Little Falls and Walker were great in terms of helping us gain experience and confidence,” Schoonover said. “But the real early-season tests will come against Park and Detroit Lakes.”
