Bemidji HS wrestling team loses at Grand Rapids
The already shorthanded Bemidji High wrestling team lost four more starters Thursday night and fell at Grand Rapids 51-24.
With Colton Doty and Logan Crosby sidelined with injuries sustained at the Brainerd Invitational, the Jacks went into Thursday's match without Cody Gardner and Nick Conner, both out with illness and Corey Huber, out with a head injury,.
Brenden Fredrickson was also withheld and wrestled exhibition.
With a makeshift lineup, the Jacks won only five matches in the 10 wrestled, trailing 27-24 in those bouts contested.
Kade Johnson's pin at 119 cut the Rapids lead to 12-6 and Craig Maas' victory at 130 brought Bemidji back to a 15-9 deficit.
Down 21-9, Bemidji received a 7-2 decision from Dale Norton at 140 and a third period pin from Drew Peterson at 145 to come within 21-18.
But four forfeits and a fall in the next five bouts sent the Hawks to a 51-18 lead before Alex Johnson closed with a first period fall at heavyweight.
The Rapids won four of the six exhibitions with Fredrickson and Dustin Greenman each dividing two bouts.

Logan Crosby and Gardner will be back in the varsity lineup but Coach Rance Bahr will enter Nick Ness, Conner and Knutson in the JV division along with Fredrickson to give the newcomers a chance to wrestle at their own level for the day.
