Bemidji HS wrestling team displays progress in win
The progress of the Bemidji wrestling team was evident Thursday when the Lumberjacks dumped Hibbing 49-28 in Bemidji.
A year ago Hibbing coasted to a 60-10 victory but Thursday BHS took control early by claiming four of the first five matches and the visitors never threatened.
Tyler O'Bierne started the evening with a second-period pin at 103. Brian Maas needed only 52 seconds to pin his opponent at 112 and Logan Crosby's 6-1 decision at 119 upped Bemidji's advantage to 15-0.
After losing at 125 Bemidji regained its winning ways at 130 when Craig Maas registered a 20-5 triumph.
Also winning for the home team were Colton Doty with a pin at 140, Kade Johnson with a 16-0 decision at 152 plus pins by Kodi Craft at 160, Nick Maggert at 215 and Alex Johnson at heavyweight.
Thursday's win upped Bemidji's dual record to 7-5. The Lumberjacks return to action Saturday when they host the annual Rick Lee Invitational.
