Bemidji Minnesota P.O. Box 455 56619

The young Bemidji High wrestling team gave its most encouraging performance of the season Thursday, going 1-2 at the Alexandria triangular.

Bemidji beat the host Cardinals 43-22 before bowing to Detroit Lakes 37-28 and Bertha-Hewitt 45-25.

For the first time in nearly two months, Bemidji fielded a full team and profited from forfeits from an opponent.

They won six straight bouts against Alex to build a 28-6 lead including a forfeit and pins from Jake Crosby and Dale Norton.

A second forfeit, Corey Huber's fall and a 1-0 heavy weight win by Alex Johnson completed the convincing win.

Logan Crosby, Craig Maas and ,Josh Dreyer had earlier decisions.

Bemidji took a 16-12 lead on DL with decisions by the Crosbys and Maas and a pin from Norton before the Lakers won the next five bouts to go ahead 34-16.

Huber broke the spell with a forfeit and Johnson closed with a fall to narrow the final gap to nine points.

Bemidji broke a 12-12 tie to build a 29-12 lead over Bertha but lost six of the final seven matches, four on pins to fall out of contention.

Bertha forfeited to Norton and Huber with Dreyer also gaining a forfeit for 18 of the Bemidji points. The Crosbys each had pins while Maas had a superior 21-7 decision.

Tyler Molitor was the only JV wrestler to see action, winning his two starts.

Sixteen Middle Schoolers, seven of them sixth graders, ended 7-17 with Robert Treuer, Seth Drebing and Brett Schussman all ending 1-0.

Next action for the Jacks will be at the Apollo triangular Friday with Brainerd rounding out the field.

The next day Bemidji is at the Blaine team tournament.
