Four Bemidji High sports units see action today, two in major tournaments.
The swim team heads south to the Buffalo Invitational while the volleyball team goes back to the Iron Range for the Virginia Invitational.
The tennis team has a triangular at Detroit Lakes with Alexandria the third team while the boys soccer team faces St. Cloud Tech and St. John's Prep in the Tech Invitational.
The swimmers finished a poor seventh last year at Buffalo and will be looking for improvement this time around.
This year the swim team is 3-1-1 in duals with three third place finishes in major meets.
The volleyball team did not compete at Virginia last season but has been a regular at the meet for many years.
It should do well in the small school field based on its fine season.
The format has been changed since the last Bemidji appearance, shifting to a 16-team single elimination event with a consolation bracket rather than opening with pool play.
Bemidji will face Chisholm in the first round.
Bemidji comes into play fresh from impressive 3-2 wins over Hibbing and Grand Rapids and is 13-2 on the year.
The tennis team should be a strong threat at DL, already holding two 7-0 wins over the Lakers while besting Alex last year 6-1.
The Cardinals however, are 11-3 and 4-2 in the CLC in third place. Bemidji will need a top effort to beat the Cardinals.
The soccer team should get a good test at St. Cloud.Tech is 3-5-3 and 2-3-2 in the CLC and seemingly beatable.
Last year it shaded Bemidji 1-0 after Monticello had won the opener 4-1.
Bemidji is coming off a fine win over Crookston Thursday in the rain, a win that lifted it a point ahead of Detroit Lakes in the Lakes to Prairie Conference.
