The Moorhead Spuds ended the 11-match win string of the Bemidji High volleyball team Thursday night, taking a four set decision on its home court.
It also ended Bemidji's two year win string over Moorhead, their only victories in the long series.
The Spuds prevailed 25-19, 22-25, 25-16, 25-15.
The loss was particularly costly since Bemidji lost the services of its strong corner player Abby Hendricks who rolled an ankle in the second set and did not return.
She is expected to miss tomorrow's trip to the Alexandria Invitational but hopefully may be back for next Tuesday's home match with East Grand Forks.
The result lifted Moorhead to 9-5 and dropped Bemidji to 17-3.
"We controlled the second game well," said Coach Teresa Colligan, "and were leading 20-14 when Hendricks was hurt We maintained that lead the rest of the set but fell back in the next two."
Kayla Hirt led with 14 kills while Jess Yost had six.
Brooke Homer had 30 sets. Erika Weimann led with 23 digs, Courtney Homer added 17 and Hendricks, Brooke Homer and Megan Wannebo 10 each.
Nicole McDonald had the only two aces on the night.
Hirt had three blocks.
Moorhead made it a complete sweep, taking the JV match 25-5, 25-20, the B Team match 25-14, 25-10 and the freshman match 25-12, 22-25, 15-8.
The B and C Teams host their own Invitationals tomorrow.
