Bemidji HS volleyball rallies on road, beats DGF

The Bemidji High volleyball team reached 8-2 on the year Tuesday, rallying to take the final two sets and edge DGF 3-2 at Dilworth.

They expect another stiff test tomorrow when they head to Grand Forks to meet Red River.

Bemidji took the opening game from the Rebels 26-24 but lost the next two 25-22, 25-21.

But they steadied to get even in the fourth set 25-17 and took full control in the fifth 15-9.

DGF has been a top team in the 8-2A picture for many years and is expected to challenge Perham for the title this year.

"We played inconsistently in the second and third sets," said Coach Teresa Colligan., "But we regained our intensity in the fourth set and took back control to win."

Kayla Hirt and Kelsey Heisler had 15 kills with Jess Yost adding 10 and Abby Hendricks 9. Brooke Homer had 48 assists.

Courtney Homer had 32 digs, Hendricks 14 and Erika Weimann 13,.

Hirt had 11 blocks, Brooke Homer 6 and Hendricks 5.

DGF handed the JV its first loss in five starts 25-23, 18-25, 15-12. The B Team reached 5-0 with a 25-16, 25-20 triumph. There was no freshman game.

The next home game will be with Moorhead Sept. 22.
