Bemidji won games 2-3-5 to pull out the win over the Roughriders. Both teams ended the evening at 9-2 on the year.

Bemidji returns home to host Brainerd Tuesday and travels north to Roseau for a Thursday match.

Bemidji swept the Riders here 3-0 last year with all three games close.

This year Red River opened with a 25-22 win only to have Bemidji win 25-14, 25-22 and take the lead.

But the home team leveled the count with a 25-23 fourth game win and carried the final into an extended length before Bemidji pulled out a 16-14 triumph.

Kayla Hirt led with 26 kills while Kelsey Heisler had 12 and Jess Yost 10.

Brooke Homer had 53 assists. Abby Hendricks and Brooke Homer had three aces and Courtney Homer two.

Erika Weimann and Hendricks each had 21 digs and Courtney Homer 17.

Hirt had 11 blocks, Heisler seven and Hendricks five

The varsity was the only Bemidji team to win.

The JV lost 25-13, 25-19. The B Team bowed 20-25, 25-12, 15-13 and the freshmen lost 25-18, 19-25, 15-11.

"It was a great game to win," said Coach Teresa Colligan. "We need wins like that to get us ready for tournament play. Red River is a truly fine team and we needed every ounce of effort to pull out the win. But this team plays together as well as any I have coached and simply refuses to quit when things go wrong."
