Bemidji HS volleyball keeps rolling with another sweep

The Bemidji High volleyball team will take an unbeaten record to the Southwest Challenge this weekend after a 3-0 win over Deer River Tuesday on the losers court.

It was the fourth straight 3-0 win for Bemidji this season.

Bemidji won 25-11, 25-20, 26-24.

The Warriors did manage to score the most points in a single game against Bemidji this year in the third set. Their 20 in the second tied the previous high.

"We came out strong in the opening set," said Coach Teresa Colligan and controlled the second game pretty much throughout. The final game was back and forth with both teams taking small leads but unable to hold them."

But tied 24-24, Bemidji registered the final two points to end the evening early.

Kayla Hirt had 15 kills to lead the attack while Kelsey Heisler had nine and Jess Yost, Courtney Homer and Abby Hendricks four each.

Brooke Homer again was the master setter with 34 set assists.

Courtney Homer had five aces and Hendricks two.

In backcourt, Erika Weimann led with 22 digs. Courtney Homer had 21 and Hendricks 14, Hirt had three solo blocks and Heisler two.

The B and JV teams also reached 4-0. The B Team won 25-10, 25-20. The JV was victorious 25-13, 25-11.

The scheduled freshman game at Thief River Falls was postponed. The ninth graders are 2-0-1.

Bemidji will open play at Marshall against Stillwater and will take on the winner or loser of the Wayzata-Fargo South game in its second game. Bemidji went 2-3 at that meet last season.
