Bemidji's Erik Truedson qualified for state Wednesday with a second-place finish in the 3,200-meter run at the Section 8AA high school track meet at Alexandria.
Truedson finished in 9 minutes, 29.08 seconds. Alexandria's Drew Paradis won the event in 9:20.95.
After four events in the boys meet, Bemidji is in sixth place with 15 points. Moorhead leads with 28, followed by Alexandria with 23 and St. Cloud Tech with 22.
The Bemidji girls team started slowly, scoring 11 points to tie with Moorhead in sixth place.
Sartell took the lead after four events with 27 points to 24 for Alexandria.
The finals in the other 14 events will be held Saturday at Sartell with the top relay teams and top two finishers in the individual events moving to the state at Hamline.
Bemidji's Travis Greenwaldt reached the finals in the 100 and 200. Nate McGriff and Peter Humeniuk both qualified in the 400, with McGriff taking first place. Alex Schoneberger advanced in the 800.
McGriff finished sixth in the long jump finals and Joe Kingery placed fifth in the shot put finals.
The Bemidji girls' hopes took a blow when it failed to advance anyone through the preliminaries in the 100, 200, 400 and 800.
Abby Hendricks advanced in the 100 and 300 hurdles with sixth- and third-place finishes.
Bemidji's eight points came on a second place from Selina Gilbertson in the discus at 119-11, five feet short of first, and a sixth from Amanda Hunt in the high jump, clearing five feet, six inches short of first.
Gilbertson's finish quailfied her for the state meet.
Rosey Erickson of Alexandria won the long jump and qualified first in the 100 and 200.
Bemidji's bests came from Serena Glass, sixth in the`100, Jessy Bruns, 13th in the 200 and 10th in the 400 and with Sara Heisler 34 in the 800.
"Virtually everyone we ran today had a personal best," said Coach Chris Lehman. "That's all you can hope for. This is just a very, very talented section ."
Only the top eight move to Saturday's finals.
Bemidji's 11 points are only three short of the 14 they scored in the full meet last year.
