Bemidji HS Thursday Preview: Jacks swim team hosts Rapids
The boys swimming and diving team will own the home spotlight today as Bemidji entertains Grand Rapids starting at 5 p.m.
BHS has won its two dual meets this winter, blitzing Thief River Falls 126-54 at Bemidji and edging Park Rapids 95-91 on the road. Both of those meets were held in mid-December.
During the holiday break the Lumberjacks participated in the Brainerd Invitational and placed fourth of six teams.
In that meet Dylan Hoven won the 50 free and 100 free and also swam a leg in the wining 200 free relay. Joining him in that race were Tyler Hemp, Nick Nyberg and Adam Falk.
Today's meet is the first of six scheduled for January. The only other home appearance this month will be Jan. 14 when Bemidji hosts its annual invitational. Joining the Lumberjacks for that meet will be Grand Rapids, Detroit Lakes, Moorhead, Thief River Falls, Grand Forks Red River, Grand Forks Central and Perham.
Bemidji will open the 2011 portion of its schedule tonight at Detroit Lakes. After opening the year with four losses the Jacks are 3-1 in their last four games.
The winning ways began with a victory over Apollo and a win at Moorhead. During the holiday break BHS split a pair of outings at the Albert Lea Invitational, falling to Hayfield 47-43 but upending Albert Lea 63-45.
Detroit Lakes evened its record at 4-4 Tuesday when it throttled Park Rapids 62-18 in Detroit Lakes. The Lakers also own wins over Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton, Wadena-DC and Moorhead. They have lost to Thief River Falls, Pequot Lakes, Pelican Rapids and Fergus Falls.
