Heading into Thursday's home opener against Thief River Falls Bemidji boys swimming and diving coach Woody Leindecker was anxious to see how his athletes would perform and, overall, he was pleased.

"Fundamentally our younger kids did well and many of our upperclassmen matched their taper times from last year's section meet," Leindecker said following Bemidji's 126-54 victory.

"I also saw that the split times of the second laps of some races were slower than the lead laps and that's a conditioning thing. But it's also normal for this early in the season."

The Prowlers proved to be no match for the Lumberjacks as Bemidji won all but one race and dominated from the opening event.

BHS opened with a win in the 200 medley as Adam Falk, Matt Arndt, Dylan Hoven and Nick Gubbels combined for a time of 1:57.49.

Nick Nyberg followed with a win in the 200 free and Falk and Seth Olson teamed for a 1-2 finish in the 200 IM.

Hoven won the next two swimming events as he captured the 50 free and the 100 fly. Sandwiched between those performances was Gunnar Nelson's victory in diving.

Gubbels took the 100 free and Nyberg collected his second individual triumph in the 500 free. Olson set the pace in the 100 breast stroke and the Jacks took the final two relays.

"The results were a little more lopsided than I thought they would be," Leindecker said. "We'll know more about our potential when we go to Park Rapids next Tuesday. With another week of practice I hope to see those back-end laps improve. Every minute we are in the water should mean faster times."
