The Bemidji softball team outlasted the elements and Thief River Falls Thursday as the Lumberjacks posted a 9-6 victory in Thief River Falls.

"What a brutal day," said BHS coach Brad Takkunen. "I have to commend the girls for dealing with the conditions. It was raining, wet and cold. We had to call the game after six innings but we played the last inning with the players standing in puddles."

Jess Yost handled the pitching duties and toughed it out.

"Jess did what she could but she pitched most of the game without being able to feel the ball because it was so cold," Takkunen said.

Offensively Yost had another productive day as she had two RBI, two hits and scored two runs.

Her double in the first inning plated Jineane Williams who had walked and stolen second.

TRF scored single runs in the first and second innings but the Jacks took advantage of a series of walks to score four in the third.

Janie Johnson opened the frame with a single and, after stealing second and gaining third on a sacrifice bunt by Sommer Monsrud, scored when Taylor McLean singled. Walks to Jineane Williams, Yost, Janelle Williams, Emily Larson, Chelsea Johnson and Laura Clark combined for the other runs.

The Jacks iced the game with three in the fourth on a pair of errors, Yost's RBI single and two double steals.

Janelle Williams capped the scoring in the sixth when she ripped a home run over the left-center fence.

Bemidji, 9-2, returns to action today when it hosts Fargo North in a doubleheader starting at 3:30 p.m.
