Bemidji HS nordic ski: Lee takes top finish for Jacks at state meet
Ely's boys and Stillwater's girls captured the state Nordic Ski titles Thursday at Giants Ridge.
Matt Lee led Bemidji's five contestants, narrowly missing an all state finish.
He took 28, three spots and ten seconds short of the top 25.
Freshman Tony Sagedahl was 94 and soph Adam Holter 96 in a field of 119.
In the girls division, Molly Manske ended 61 and Bailey Drewes 75 in a field of 120.
Ely held an eight point lead over Forest Lake in the boys race. Wayzata, Hopkins and Osseo rounded out the top five with Minneapolis South, Lakeville North and Little Falls trailing.
Raleigh Goessling of CEC took individual honors in 28.41, topping Ben Sexton of Lakeville North by 22 seconds.
Jake Richards of Detroit Lakes led the Section 8 entrants in 21. Lee was second.
In the girls race. Stillwater beat Wayzata by 23 points with Ely, Minneapolis Southwest and Winona the next three. Armstrong, St. Paul Academy and Little Falls trailed.
Jessie Diggins of Stillwater won individual honors in 31.28.5
Annie Hart of SPA was second, two seconds behind.
Summer Ellefson of the Ellefson Home School led the Section 8 qualifiers in 24. Hannah Kellerman of St. Cloud Cathedral/Sartell was next in 56 with Manske third..
Of the five, only Lee and Manske graduate this year with Drewes having one more season, Holter two and Sagedahl three.
