Bemidji HS girls tennis Five qualify for sections

Bemidji High School will send five players to the section tennis meet next week, all qualifying Wednesday at the Grand Forks Tennis Center in the North Sub-Section individual tournament.

Jamie Hoffman captured the singles title with three straight victories, pressed only in the final which went three sets.

The Solberg and Kane sisters moved up in doubles, taking second and third.

The Solbergs gained the final before defaulting due to illness. The Kanes, who bowed to Kayla Headlee and Zoe Houle of Brainerd in the semifinals, dropped Alexandria in the third place match.

The section will be at Sartell starting Monday with the team tournament which will send Bemidji against St. Cloud Tech in the semifinals. Monticello and Brainerd clash in the other.

Hoffman, seeded first, drew a first round bye, then beat Jenae Anderson of Little Falls 6-1, 6-0 and Joelle Langeworthy of Detroit Lakes 6-3, 6-0 to gain the title match.

There she dispensed Mickenzie Salo of Brainerd 7-6 (7-2) 3-6, 6-2 to gain the title.

Emma Nielsen, lost her first match to Ashley White of Alexandria 6-1, 6-2 with White bowing to Salo 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.

In doubles, Cortne and Jess Solberg were seeded second, also gaining a first round bye.

They defeated Sam Kletscher and Courtney Tusler of Brainerd 6-3. 6-2 and Brianna Ebert and Laura Johnson of Alex 6-1, 6-3 before defaulting in the final.

The Kanes beat Holly

-2 and Brandi Bauer of Little Falls 6-0. 6-0 and followed with a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Layne Meyer and Samantha Nelson of Moorhead before falling to Headlee and Houle 6-3, 6-0.

But they rebounded to beat Ebert and Johnson to take third.

Hoffman will open at the section against the No. 4 finisher from the south sub-section.

The Solbergs will go against the third place finishers while the Kanes will face the runner-up.

Bemidji is trying for its third straight team championship and fifth in history.
