Bemidji HS girls hockey shades Moorhead 4-3
The Bemidji High girls hockey team scored another impressive win Friday night, handing Moorhead a 4-3 setback on the Spuds ice.
It was the second straight 4-3 loss for the Spuds who bowed to Crookston by that score Thursday.
Bemidji raised its record to 4-1 coming back from its only setback of the year to Roseau.
The girls host East Grand Forks Tuesday at The Glas, head to Grand Rapids Thursday and entertain Fergus Falls Saturday in a 12;45 matinee at Nymore Gardens.
Bemidji trailed only once Friday night, falling behind 3-2 in the closing moments of the second period.
But two third period goals told the tale with Casey Miller getting the game winner on a power play.
It was the second power play of the night, the first of the year with the manpower advantage for Bemidji. It had been 0-12 in the first four starts.
After a sloppy first period, which ended scoreless, Bemidji took leads of 1-0 and 2-1 in the second.
Shelby Sauer scored the first on a power play with Allie Lapp and Becca Gregg gaining assists.
After Moorhead tied the score, Allie Heifort scored her first varsity goal less than a minute later off an assist from Karleigh Wolkerstorfer.
But Moorhead scoring star Ashley Steenerson tied the game five minutes later and Elsa Odney sent the Spuds in front 3-2 in the final two minutes of play.
Bemidji held a 17-16 shots edge at that point.
Heifort registered her second goal at 7:04 of the final stanza to knot the count at 3-3 and Miller won it at 15:45 with Mikayla Carey off for a cross check.
Bemidji skated off the final penalty for the last 69 seconds to cement the win.
Maris Thompson ended with 19 saves in the Bemidji net. Lydia Norwig had 27 saves for the Spuds.
