Bemidji HS girls hockey: Roseau shuts out Bemidji 2-0
The Roseau Rams scored single goals in the first and third periods Tuesday night to hand Bemidji's girls a 2-0 hockey setback in the frozen confines of Nymore Gardens.
The game matched two teams with winning records. And the two played up to their records.
But Roseau finished the end of an odd man rush twice in the game for the victory.
Bemidji out shot the winners 22-18, dominating most of the final two stanzas, but was unable to connect.
Roseau shut down the strong first line of the host team that had scored eight goals and 21 points in the first three starts.
And Bemidji's strong defense and close body play took Roseau out of its accustomed flow and made shots hard to come by.
The game was played at break neck speed with play flowing from one end of the ice to the other.
Bemidji rushed the net far better than in its early starts and had opportunities to score.
"I thought we out played them most of the night," said Coach Matt Menne. "We had chances to score but couldn't get to the rebounds. Once we do we will be very hard to stop."
"Roseau had a p[air of Division I prospects, one on each of their top two lines, which made them hard to hold down. But I thought we did well doing it."
The game ended the first month's play for Bemidji which returns to the ice Dec. 4 at Moorhead in another Greater Minnesota Conference and Section 8-2A contest. The next home game is Dec. 8 at BSU with East Gran Forks.
Abby Ness and Karlie Hedlund had the Roseau goals, Ness converting a Hedlund feed at the goal mouth in the first period and Hedlund ending a three man rush in the third with Ness and Ciscely Nelson getting the assists.
Maria Thompson had 16 stops in a fine effort for Bemidji. Katie Olson turned back 22 for the Rams.
Bemidji drew three of the five penalties with no goals resulting on the power play.
Bemidji, which has yielded only one on 15 opponents tries, it still seeking its first in 12 attempts.
Both teams ended the night at 3-1, Roseau losing at Minnetonka Saturday 2-1.
