Bemidji HS girls hockey: Roseau edges Jacks in key section, conference game
ROSEAU - The Bemidji High School girls hockey team lost to Roseau 2-1 Thursday night in a game that was won and lost on special teams.
Bemidji scored first on Alli Lapp's shorthanded goal late in the first period, but the Rams scored back-to-back power play goals in the second and held off the Jacks in the third period for the win.
Megan Foley scored 26 second into the second period for Roseau and Abby Ness scored at 9:44 of the period.
Lapp's goal came with 26 seconds to go in the first period and she scored the goal after coming out of the box for a roughing penalty.
Bemidji outshot Roseau 20-11 in the game and was unable to avenge a 2-0 loss earlier this season to the Rams.
The Jacks fell to 17-5-2 with the loss.
The game was a key Section 8AA battle and the win gave Roseau (20-5) the edge for the No. 1 seed in the section.
Maria Thompson had nine saves in net for the Jacks and Katie Olson had 19 saves for the Rams.
"They are a team that just won't let you walk in and shoot or have breakaways," Bemidji head coach Matt Menne said. "You have to work hard for your goals against them. They've only averaged about one goal against for the last month and they are pretty tough defensively. This one came down to special teams."
The Jacks will be back on the ice Friday night at Nymore Arena against Cloquet-Esko-Carlton at 7 p.m.
