Roseau scored late in the first period and early in the second and those goals helped the Rams post a 7-0 victory over the Bemidji girls hockey team Tuesday in Roseau.

"We had stretches where we spent a long time in the defensive zone and couldn't clear the puck," said BHS coach Matt Menne. "On both of those goals Roseau took advantage of our long shifts. And those two goals killed us."

The Lumberjacks managed 19 shots on Roseau goaltender Dallas Barry but they couldn't slip a puck past her. Roseau (4-0) fired 31 times and found the net on seven shots.

"We probably should have had two or three goals and Roseau probably should have had two or three fewer goals," Menne said. "If a couple of bounces go different ways we score a few goals. And Roseau took advantage of our long shifts and also had a couple of long screen shots find the net.

"We did get better as the game continued and we had a great effort the entire game."

Roseau took a 2-0 lead in the opening period as the Rams connected on a 5-on-3 power play with 6:09 to play in the stanza and again with 21 seconds remaining.

They upped their cushion to 5-0 after the second period and iced the victory with a pair of goals in the third.

"It would have been nice to score a few goals but the kids gave an outstanding effort," Menne said. "They played with tenacity, they played like a family and we took some steps in the right direction.

"We are a work in progress and Tuesday we made some progress," Menne added.

Bemidji, 0-2, returns to action 5 p.m. Friday at Buffalo. Saturday finds the Jacks battling North Wright County in Buffalo at 1 p.m.
