The Bemidji High girls hockey team scored once in each period Tuesday to hand Hibbing a 3-1 setback on the losers ice.
Bemidji reached 10-2 on the year while Hibbing dropped to 1-9-1.
The Bluejackets, with a young inexperienced team, played close to the vest all night, packing the crease to keep Bemidji away from the net and playing a tough, physical game.
Bemidji fired 43 shots at goalie Nichole Klennert, most from long range.
Casey Miller scored the first period goal off a Chaniel Nelson feed.
Jess Hunt connected in the second for a 2-0 lead which Hibbing matched a minute later on a Leah Coughlin tally.
But Bemidji put the game away on the power play in the final period with Alli Heifort getting the goal off a Shelby Sauer assist.
Bemidji was 1-2 on the power play, Hibbing was 0-5.
"We hit several pipes and were just wide on a number of other good shots," said Coach Matt Menne,. "But we played hard all the way and won."
Next for the team will be a meeting with North Wright County Tuesday to open the Andover Invitational. The winners and losers battle Anoka or Woodbury in Wednesday's second round.
Laura Thompson made her debut making only seven stops, none in the final period., Klennert ended with 40.
