Bemidji HS girls golf takes fifth at section meet
The Bemidji girls golf team remained fifth at the Section 8AA tournament Tuesday, three strokes out of fourth but 19 behind winning Alexandria.
Bemidji made a surge on the opening nine and was only three strokes off the lead at the turn.
But a poor back side cost it dearly.
Alex, one stroke off the lead Monday, posted a 370 in the second round to win with a 753 to 758 for Buffalo, which also closed at 370.
First round leader Apollo sagged to third at 765 with Tech fourth at 769, Bemidji ended at 772 with Sartell sixth.
Maggie Leland of Alex posted a second straight 79 to take medalist honors at 158.
For Bemidji, Megan Phelps hit 91, Kelsey Bretschneider 92, Shelby Sauer 95 and Emily Frosaker 104 to complete the scoring.
The kickers were Aimee Sandquist at 104 and Erin Buckanaga 110.
Sauer ended her 36 holes at 187, two strokes shy of gaining a state berth.
Anna Walleson of Rogers gained the final spot at 185 in a two way playoff.
Only Bretschneider graduates from the tournament six this year. Coach Jeff Nelson hopes to see the remaining five spend their summer on the course perfecting their games.
