The Bemidji High girls basketball team had few problems Saturday, rolling past outmatched Thief River Falls 72-38 at the Fieldhouse.

Bemidji took a 44-18 halftime lead, fought off a brief Prowler rally to start the second period, then won going away.

The Prowlers five starters were 5-7 or shorter, providing little resistance to the far taller home team.

Kayla Hirt had a field day scoring 18 first half points and grabbing 13 rebounds to pace nine players in the scoring column.

She ended with 24, playing briefly in the second half.

Kelsey Heisler added 11 while Erika Weimann and Abby Hendricks hit nine, Hendricks' best scoring game this winter,.

No Prowlers reached double figures.

As expected, facing a team it had beaten 60-32 at TRF in December. Bemidji came out flat and trailed 5-2 at the start.

But it ran the next 10 points to take charge but was only ahead 20-16 late in the stanza when it uncorked a 15 point unanswered run for a 35-16 lead.

Thoughts of running time disappeared at the start of the second stanza when TRF ran the first 11 points including a pair of treys to draw back within 44-29.

But that was as close as the visitors would come.

Four runs of six followed for a 24-4 bulge as Coach Rick Kehoe went to the bench.

Running time did not begin until late in the half when the winners took a 68-33 led

The winners held a substantial 44-24 lead off the boards with Hirt claiming 15 and Heisler seven. No Prowler had more than four.

The winners also had a low 10 turnovers to 24 for the losers.

Bemidji is now 15-1 heading to Pequot Lakes Thursday for its next start. It hosts East Grand Forks Saturday afternoon in what could be a tough contest.

The B and C teams both lost.

The B Team dropped to 5-10 with a 52-29 setback trailing 25-13 at halftime.

The team, which has already lost Jess Yost and Kenzie Kane to the varsity played without Caitlin Hadrava, its lone remaining big scorer, sidelined with a hip injury.

It managed only four field goals in the first half and 11 in the game.

Kellie Morehouse and Dani Gronhovd were high with seven points.

The freshmen are 9-5 after a 62-45 setback. Thief River led 39-19 at halftime and never let up.

Brooke Yaggie hit 18 and Lilly Kainz 16 to lead the way. Greta Steever had 17 an Cheyenne Woods 14 for Bemidji.
