Bemidji HS football: Sartell buries Jacks in the snow

It snowed on the Bemidji Lumberjacks Homecoming parade.

The Sartell Sabres beat the Jacks 28-0 Friday at Chet Anderson Stadium in a game played mostly in the snow.

The snow, which began as flurries as the game began, turned to a more steady fall in the second half and left the field covered by the end of play. The Sabres shut down Bemidji almost entirely behind their big front line to roll up four ground touchdowns.

Bemidji seldom threatened, their best chance coming following a long interception return in the third period. But four plays gained only five yards and Bemidji never came close again. Sartell already had its 28 points on the board by that point.

Halfback Josh Kremer was the ground leader scoring on runs of 1, 53 and 21 yards. Sean Tillman went 29 for the fourth.

With Kremer and Tillman carrying on every play, Sartell marched 61 yards on 12 plays after the opening kickoff to score. Tillman had 40 yards and Kremer 21, each on six carries. Kremer carried the final yard to score.

Following a penalty, Cole Karsky's placement sailed wide.

Czar Woods' 32-yard kickoff return put the Jacks across midfield and they reached the 26 before being set back on one fumble and then losing the ball on another.

Bemidji stopped Sartell on its next drive to end the period.

But on its third possession it went 55 yards on three plays following a short punt.

The first two gained a yard. On the third Kremer broke off the left side and outdistanced the Jacks secondary on his 53 yard scoring run. He also ran the two point conversion for a 14-0 lead.

Again the defense held and later got the ball back on a fumble recovery by Forrest Moe.

But it coughed up the ball two plays later in the final minute and Sartell used the break to go 34 yard on two plays to score again. Kremer went the final 21 off the left side to the end zone. Krasky made it 21-0.

At the break, Sartell had 140 yards, 127 on the ground, Bemidji had 26.

Sartell lost little time in salting the game away.Bemidji gambled on fourth and short near midfield after the opening kickoff and lost eight yards and possession on the fourth down fumble.

It took Sartell three plays to go the 42 yards to score Tillman going up the middle through the Jacks secondary from the 29, Karsky added the final point.

Sartell got the ball back again on a long interception return moments later and reached the Bemidji 18 before being set back on a fumble and halted when Woods picked off Cole Jenkins long aerial and raced 60 yards to the Sabres 30.

But four plays later is was at the 26 in the final threat of the night.

By this time the Sabres reserves were on the field and Bemidji played on more even terms until staging one final move behind Jesse Eck and Kevin Nelson to reach the 15 before a holding call and two incomplete passes ended matters.,'

Sartell held a 212-85 yardage bulge, 199 on the ground. Kremer gained 108 and Tillman 88 in less than three periods of work.

he win lifted Sartell to 6-0 add dropped Bemidji to 2-4.

The Jacks head to Moorhead Wednesday to face a laboring Spuds team that has beaten only winless Fergus Fall in five starts,. The final home game will be Oct. 22 with Rocori.
