Bemidji HS boys track: Jacks second at Grand Rapids
The Bemidji boys track and field team placed second Tuesday at a quadrangular hosted by Grand Rapids.
The home team took the title with 90 points but BHS was second with 67.
Bemidji won the three relay events. The 4x800 unit of Scott Hulsebus, Andy Berube, Dan Clemenson and Peter Humeniuk set the pace with a time of 8:47.55.
Grant Mitchell, Kevin Nelson, Brady Schmidt and Ryan Rude combined for a winning time of 1:35.12 in the 4x200.
Mitchell, Humeniuk, John Buckanaga and Alex Schoneberger teamed to win the 4x400 in 3:33.31.
Individually, Rude captured the triple jump (41-3). Kyle Huewe was fifth (34-8.5).
The Lumberjacks had a pair of runner-up finishes. Buckanaga was second in the 1600 with a time of 4:39.18. Schoneberger was third in 4:41.9, Isak Sommer fourth in 4:48.0 and Clemenson sixth in 4:58.32.
In the 400 Humeniuk was second with a time of 53.20. Mitchell placed fourth in 53.86 and Rude was sixth in 54.85.
Thirds were contributed by Schmidt in the 100 (11.83), Keegan Hilmer in the 300 hurdles (45.90), Schoneberger in the 800 (2:01.24) and Corey Huber in the pole vault (10-6).
Hilmer was fourth in the 100 hurdles (19.35) as were Sam Peterson in the 100 (12.14), Buckanaga in the 800 (2:04.74), Schmidt in the 200 (24.27) and the long jump (18-3.5), Jon Henry in the pole vault (10-6) and Zach DeClusin in the high jump (5-6).
Kevin Nelson was fifth in the long jump (17-9.25) and adding sixths were Corey Huber in the shot (35-6), Bryce Blankenseld in the 3200 (11:46.16) plus Adam Loisel in the 300 hurdles (49.43) and the 110 hurdles (20.47).
Bemidji returns to action Friday at Brainerd.
