Bemidji HS boys soccer: Upgren, Curb, Burns score in win

The Bemidji boys soccer team rebounded from its poor showing at Hibbing to blank Apollo 3-0 Saturday at St. Cloud.

It lifted Bemidji to 7-3-1 on the year and dropped the Eagles to 4-6-3.

Bemidji heads to Moorhead for a key section game Tuesday and returns home to host Crookston Thursday at 4 in Lakes to Prairie Conference play.

The strong Bemidji defense allowed Apollo to get only seven shots on goal. all of which were handled by Kevin Larson who posted his third shutout of the year.

Bemidji had 13 on Apollo goalie Ryan Brutger.

Luke Upgren scored the only goal Bemidji would need when he connected at the four minute mark on a Mike Burns feed. It was Upgren's first varsity goal.

The 1-0 lead lingered until halftime with Bemidji holding a 7-3 shots lead.

Rylee Curb registered his 15th goal at the 65 minute mark off a Josh Beberg feed taking a long lead pass behind the Eagles defense for a breakaway.

At 73 minutes,  Burns was at the left corner to take a pass from Max Hazelton and head it home.

The win was a the first in Coach Rick Toward's long tenure on the Apollo field.

The B Team is 7-1-3 after a 2-1victory with Jake Arndt and Dillon Eichstadt scoring, Eichstadt on a penalty kick that broke a 1-1 tie in the second half. Carl Graefe had eight stops to post the win.
