Bemidji HS boys soccer loses to Brainerd
The Bemidji boys soccer team was perhaps due for a bad day.
After playing excellent soccer all fall, it proved no match for 4-2 Brainerd, suffering a 6-1 setback at the Middle School field.
Bemidji fell behind 3-0 at halftime, scored early in the second half, then allowed three more goals to fall out of contention.
Bemidji had allowed only 10 goals in its first seven starts, never more than three in any game, one of which it won.
But Joseph Nelson, Nick Oldham and Fabio Cmargo scored for Brainerd before halftime as the Warriors out shot Bemidji 8-2.
Isak Sommer cut the led to 3-1 early in the second half as Rylee Curb put a crossing pass to Max Hazelton who fed Sommer for the tally.
But eight minutes later, Jake Williams got this one back and Chris Nathan and Cmargo added the final two tallies.
Larson ended with seven stops. Matt Sather had five for Brainerd.
Bemidji will need a quick recovery when it heads to Fergus Falls Tuesday for a return meeting with Hillcrest Academy. Bemidji won the first meeting 3-1 at home.
"If we had to play a game like this, I'm just glad it was not against a section opponent," said a disappointed Coach Rick Toward. "I sincerely hope we got all the bad soccer out of our system today.."
The B Team hand better success, scoring a 2-1 win over the Warriors to reach 5-1-2.
