Bemidji HS boys basketball team loses on the road at Duluth East

The Duluth East Greyhounds beat Bemidji at its own game Thursday night, outracing the Jacks 88-63 at Duluth.

The Hounds took the lead early in the first half and never let up, moving ahead 43-28 at the break and never letting Bemidji get closer than 10.

It was a three pronged attack for East which saw Johnny Woodard net 27, Nick Toland 23 and Columbia bound Dyami Starks 19 to lout score Bemidji themselves.

Bemidji had four players reach double figures with Carey Woods getting 15, Ryan Rude 13, Dan Frost a season-high 12 and Czar Woods 10.

Bemidji moved ahead 7-0 at the start and still led 11-6 when the Hounds unleashed a nine-point run to go ahead to stay.

A later seven point run upped the margin to 24-15 and the home team gradually worked the gap to15 as Bemidji continued to miss shots repeatedly and hurt itself with weak rebounding.

The loss was the third straight for Jacks who dropped to11-7 and face a strong Alexandria quintet in Saturday's second game. East rose to14-7, most of its setbacks to state ranked teams.
