Bemidji High School's Brady Schmidt to play in state's all-star football game
Bemidji’s Brady Schmidt was among 89 players selected to play in the 40th annual Minnesota High School All-Star Football Game June 29 at Husky Stadium on the campus of the St. Cloud State University. The kickoff will be at 1 p.m.
The All-Star Football Game will showcase outstanding senior players from the 2012 high school football season. Players and coaches representing 79 schools and 34 conferences will participate in this year’s game. They were selected by members of the Minnesota Football Coaches Association.
Schmidt, a 5-foot-10 running back, helped lead Bemidji to the state tournament three times in four years. The Lumberjacks lost in the championship game in 2011 and made it to the semifinals in 2012. The speedster carried the ball 123 times for 903 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2012. He has signed a letter of intent to play college football at Bemidji State.
The 2013 All-Star Game will be the 40th in the current annual series and the 51st overall. For the third consecutive year, the game will feature the North All-Stars versus the South All-Stars. In the 2012 game, 2011 Metro Player of the Year Trey Heid (Lakeville North) led the South All-Stars to a 33-21 victory over the North All-Stars at Husky Stadium.
The current North-South series is tied 1-1. The overall North-South series is tied 9-9-1 after 19 games.

This includes 16 players from the 2012 Associated Press All-State First Team, 11 players from the 2012 Associated Press All-State Second Team and two players from the 2012 9-Man All-State Team. There will be 14 players who participated in the 2012 Prep Bowl (9 state championship players and 5 state runner-up players).
One of this year’s participants is Bridgeport Tusler (RB, Osseo). Tusler was the 2012 Star Tribune Metro Player of the Year, the 2012 Associated Press Player of the Year and the 2012 Mr. Football winner. He will play college football at South Dakota State (Football Championship Subdivision).
