The Bemidji High School swim team concludes its regular season tonight, hosting the Moorhead Spuds at 6 at the high school pool.
The team will begin its taper for the Section 8A meet at Warroad, its first venture into the Class A level in its history.
It takes a 6-2-1 dual meet record into the pool tonight following an impressive 62-28 win at Fosston last week.
But it is continuing to fight a siege of illness with Coach Woody Leindecker unsure of who will be available to swim tonight.
"We've been fighting this for over a week,"said Leindecker. "I hope we can end it quickly to begin getting set for the section meet."
Bemidji won the True Team section title recently over Park Rapids missing freshman star Stephanie Frey that day to the sick b ay.
All of the top swimmers were back for the Fosston meet though the team was missing several swimmers.
Balance has been the team's strength this season. It is completing its fifth straight winning campaign and is 36-9-1 during that stretch.
It is led by seniors Selina Gilbertson, Katie Verchota, Tayler Heinle, Kirsten Sharpe and Hannah Sweep, juniors Dani Luby, Alicia Papke-Larson, Laura Yourd, Bethany Scholl and Tayler McLean, sophomores Mac-kenzie Timms, Ashlin Hasson, Jana Hedstrom, Clare Lawrence and Jordyn Olson and the freshmen contingent topped by Frey, Maris Jahner, Jamie Vanasse, Lexie Hendricks Katie Krause and Taylor Hedges with another dozen squad members adding points throughout the year.
Bemidji won last year's meet 99-87 at Moorhead topped by double-figure performances from Gilbertson and Verchota along with graduated Kaleigh Frey.
