After an unexpected few days off the Bemidji high school teams have a busy week in store, beginning today when the softball team hosts Grand Forks Red River and the track teams head to Brainerd.

Because of last week's steady rain, the softball team has been off since April 26. In between the Lumberjacks saw Thursday's home game against Duluth East and Friday's game at Grand Forks Central become weather victims.

Bemidji (7-2) will entertain Red River beginning at 4:30 p.m. Thursday sees BHS visiting Moorhead at 5 p.m. and the Jacks will head to Brainerd 5 p.m. Friday.

Today's game marks the end of the home season. In addition to this week's road tests at Moorhead and Brainerd, Bemidji will head to Fargo North on May 11, Thief River Falls on May 13, Cloquet on May 15 and Grand Rapids on May 20.

BHS track

The track and field teams also had an unexpected day off as last Friday's meet at Brainerd was postponed until today. The Lumberjacks were originally scheduled to visit Grand Rapids today but the Brainerd competition includes some section opponents and would provide a better indication as to how BHS compares with the teams it will face in the post-season.

When the Brainerd meet was moved to today, Bemidji opted to make the venue switch.

BHS girls coach Chris Lehman is looking forward to today's competition.

"I'm anxious to see how we will do in this meet," he said. "We want to use our best lineup. My job is to determine who will run what events and who will be in the relays so we can have our best lineup on the track."

Upcoming events

No Bemidji teams are scheduled to compete on Wednesday but Thursday sees the softball team at Moorhead and the tennis squad at Thief River Falls for the Northwest Quad.

Friday will be another busy day for the Lumberjacks athletes. In addition to softball at Brainerd, the baseball team will play at Fergus Falls, the boys golfers will compete in the first round of a two-day meet in Fargo and the tennis team will host Crookston at 4:30 p.m.

Saturday finds the tennis team entertaining Thief River Falls and Monticello at 9 a.m. and the girls golfers heading to The Quarry in Virginia.
