Bemidji high school girls swimming: Jacks score seven points at state
The Bemidji High girls swim team placed in three events Saturday and scored seven points at the state Class A swim meet.
That total was the most since it scored 23 in 1997, It hit seven the following year but had not had that many since.
Selina Gilbertson closed her six-year career finishing 13 in the 200 freestyle, clocked at 2:00.45.
That gave her four points.
The 200 free relay of Steph Frey, Maris Jahner, Gilbertson and Katie Verchota was 16 in 1:43.,81 for two points.
Diver Jana Hedstrom added the final point when she ended 16 in the one meter event with a score of 295.45.
Of the five who qualified for the final, day, only Gilbertson and Verchota will graduate. Hedstrom is a sophomore and Frey and Jahner freshmen.
Frey also reached the state in the IM and narrowly missed qualifying in the breaststroke.
The 400 relay gained with state with Dani Luby supplanting Jahner in that event. She is a junior and will also be back in 2010.
