The Bemidji High girls hockey team completed an opening weekend sweep, beating Wayzata 5-2 Saturday afternoon at the Plymouth Ice Center .
It came one day after is 3-1 opening-night win at Prior Lake.
Bemidji jumped to a 3-0 lead after two periods, saw Wayzata slice the lead to 3-2 in the third but came back to match those two goals to widen the lead before the game ended.
"We played very well all night," said Coach Matt Menne. "I was very pleased with the way we responded to the Wayzata comeback to take charge down the stretch."
Next up for the girls is a trip to Thief River Falls Friday. The Prowlers dropped their opener 6-3 to South St. Paul Friday.
Allie Lapp scored twice and Becca Gregg, Casey Miller and Shelby Sauer once for Bemidji.
All seven goals came at even strength.
Gregg broke the scoring open at the 17-second mark, taking feeds from Sauer and Lapp to beat goalie Paige Marcy,
Miller followed with her first varsity goal at 8:15 off feeds from Janie Johnson and Chaniel Nelson. Bemidji held a slim 7-6 shots edge in the stanza.
Lapp had the only goal of the second period off feeds from Gregg and Sauer as each team fired seven shots on goal.
The losers battled back in the third period with back to back goals from Allison Senden and Hillary Duda, coming within a 12 second period.
But Bemidji steadied and took back control with Lapp and Sauer hitting to establish the final three goal margin.
Maria Thompson had her second good night in the net, making 19 stops. Marcy had 20 saves for Wayzata.
Bemidji lost Gregg in the final period to a sprained ankle. But Bemidji had perhaps its strongest period to overcome the loss. Caitlin Blotske filled Gregg's gap during that period.
The team will host is annual fund raiser, a roast beef dinner Monday from 4:30-7:30 at the Eagles.
