Bemidji High School freshman basketball improves to 15-3

Overshadowed by the impressive 19-3 record of the varsity boys basketball team, the Bemidji High School freshmen have been recording their own wins at a record-breaking pace, running their mark to 15-3 with six wins in their last seven starts.

The string began with a 61-43 win at Cloquet led by Ryan Hirt's 15 points and 11 from Joe Strong.

Next came a 46-39 win over Moorhead's sophomores with the Jacks combining the freshmen with five players from their B Team.

Nick Hovila led that win with 12 while Strong and Hirt each added seven.

Four players reached double figures in a 63-52 win over International Falls. Hirt had 12, Strong and Jayden Ingalls 11 and Collin Rutledge 10.

At Grand Forks Central, the frosh reached their season high with a 90-34 decision.

Strong and Ingalls had 15, Gabe Salander 14, Hirt 13 and Rutledge 11.

Next was a 71-59 decision over Duluth East with Strong netting a season high 27 while Hirt followed with 18 and Rutledge hit 12, that trio coming within two points of the Grey hounds total.

At Alexandria, Bemidji won 56-54 with Hirt leading with 21 while Ingalls had 12 and Rutledge 11

Detroit Lakes broke the string with a 63-46 win, with Strong and Hirt netting 15.

Strong and Hirt had 17 and Ingalls 11 in the 62-45 win over Willmar in their last start.

They are back in action at Grand Rapids Thursday, a team they beat here 57-26.

After 18 games eighth grader Hirt paces the team with 275 points.
