Bemidji girls win, boys third at Moorhead meet
MOORHEAD — Jenna Truedson began her cross country season on a great note as the junior captured the individual title of Monday’s season-opening invitational at Moorhead. Her individual performance helped the Lumberjacks claim the team championship of the eight-team meet with 35 points. Willmar was a close second with 38.
In the boys competition the Jacks were third and leading the way was Sam Carlson who finished second individually.
Truedson dominated her race as she completed the course in 15:09.9. A distant second at 15:35.7 was Samantha Hanson of Willmar while Willmar’s Jessa Hanson was third in 16:10.7.
Complimenting Truedson’s performance were three more top-eight efforts by her teammates. Sadie Hamrin placed fourth (16:24.5), Megan Serratore was fifth (16:32.4) and Atomic Thorson was eighth (16:36.9).
Arie Gislason was 17th, Anna Gislason 22nd and Ali Neubeck 34th.
Perham claimed the boys team title with 46 points and Willmar was second with 65. Bemidji finished just behind Willmar with 67.
Keeghan Hurley of Perham was the overall winner with a time of 17:06.8. Carlson claimed second at 17:31.1.
The Lumberjacks placed three more runners in the top 20 as Billy Freyholtz was 11th (18:21.1), Caleb Appleton 12th (18:25.2) and Seth Neubeck 18th (19:09.7). Also contributing to the BHS effort were Noah Holter who was 26th, Evan White who was 25th and Thomas Revering who was 37th.
The cross country teams will have an extended break as they don’t return to duty until Sept. 5 at Detroit Lakes.
