“It was a good game for us. Everybody got a lot of playing time,” BHS head coach Kelly Schoonover said. “It’s always fun for the girls to get to play a lot and kind of build their stats.”

The Lumberjacks had absolutely no trouble against the Crookston defense, carving up the Pirates (0-3) for 22 shots on goal.

And the Jacks (5-1) wasted no time. Maea Wall kicked things off in the first minute with an unassisted goal.

Booth got her first goal 26 minutes later with an assist from eighth-grader Rachel Holm.

Three minutes later they got a goal from Palmer, normally the team’s starting keeper. Her score in the 30th minute proved she can beat opposing keepers as much as she can make the saves.

Booth assisted Palmer on that goal, and also assisted on Emily Boyer’s in the 32nd minute, putting the Jacks up 4-0 at halftime.

They would score three more times after the break. Wall scored in the 50th minute on an assist from Holm, then Booth netted an unassisted tally in the 76th minute.

Josie Spry’s goal in the 79th minute, with an assist from Booth, put a nice bookend on a rout.

“It was kind of a nice break after that tough East Grand Forks game,” Schoonover said. The Jacks came back to win that game 3-2 Tuesday afternoon.

In place of Palmer in net, Cassidy Morris played keeper. She didn’t have many shots to stop but made all the saves she needed to (2), procuring a shutout in the process.

The Lumberjacks have an important home match this weekend, when they’ll host St. Cloud Cathedral at 6 p.m. Saturday.

“It was a fun game and a good win,” Schoonover said. “It gets us warmed up for this weekend. We were able to rest some girls and got a lot of girls in the game, so we should be ready.”
