Bemidji football: Lumberjacks earn No. 3 seed and will host Duluth East Tuesday
It’s official. The Bemidji High School football team received the No. 3 seed in the Section 7-5A rankings and will open its postseason 7 p.m. Tuesday at Chet Anderson Stadium against No. 6 Duluth East.
The Lumberjacks will take a 6-2 record into Tuesday’s game while Duluth East is 0-8.
The seedings were determined by the Quality Results Formula (QRF) rankings and head-to-head results and Brainerd received the top seed. Brainerd’s QRF of 129 also is the highest among Minnesota’s Class 5A teams.
Chisago finished with a QRF of 92.9 and earned the No. 2 seed in the section. BHS has a 76.8 QRF while fourth-seeded St. Francis is at 63.2
Cambridge’s QRF of 67.6 is actually higher than that of St. Francis but Cambridge was dropped to fifth in the section seedings because it lost 27-18 to St. Francis during the regular season.
Duluth East has a QRF of 19.3.
Brainerd and Chisago Lakes received first-round playoff byes. Tuesday’s other opening match-up sees St. Francis hosting Cambridge.
If Bemidji wins Tuesday it will travel to Chisago Lakes 7 p.m. Oct. 26. The section title game will be Nov.1 at the home of the highest remaining seed.
