Bemidji curlers continue to vie for Olympic berths

Bemidji curlers continued their quests for berths in the 2010 Winter Olympics with mixed results at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Broomfield, Colo.

Sisters Cassie Potter and Jamie Haskell, formerly of Bemidji, are 2-2 after splitting a pair of decisions on Sunday and losing on Monday. They lost to Norma O'Leary of Duluth 8-4 but bounced back to defeat Charrissa Lin of New Haven, Conn., 10-5. This morning the Potter rink scored four in the eight end to take a 6-4 lead over Amy Wright of Duluth, but Wright scored three in the ninth and three more in the 10th to win 10-6.

The Potter rink plays again today at 5 p.m.

Natalie Nicholson of Bemidji, curling with the Debbie McCormick rink of Madison, Wis., remains unbeaten after four draws. They had 10-3 and 9-5 victories on Sunday and won 6-4 today.

Sarah Lehman of Bemidji, competing on the Gillian Gervais rink of Bismarck, N.D., picked up her first win today, 7-5 in extra ends to move to 1-3. They lost 6-3 and 9-5 on Sunday.

On the men's side, Mark Haluptzok of Bemidji was on the winning side twice on Sunday. He is curling with the Tyler George rink of Duluth, which defeated fellow Duluth rink John Shuster 9-2 and then beat Mark Johnson of Seattle 8-6. George is 2-1 heading into play today at 1 p.m. and 9 p.m.
